XiFin made a strategic investment in Notable Systems as part of Notable's Series B — and announced a multi-year alliance to embed agentic document intelligence directly into XiFin's Empower AI RCM ecosystem. The target: the requisitions, prescriptions, medical records, and payer correspondence that still require a human to touch them.
XiFin, the San Diego-based RCM platform that has held the #1 KLAS client-rated position in cross-ancillary and outpatient lab RCM for seven consecutive years, just made a strategic investment in Notable Systems as part of Notable's Series B financing. Alongside the capital, the two companies announced a multi-year strategic alliance to build and deliver agentic AI capabilities across XiFin's Empower AI RCM ecosystem.
Notable Systems, founded in 2017 and headquartered in Denver, builds agentic AI for document-intensive healthcare revenue cycle workflows — specifically the DME, diagnostics, and pharmacy billing environments where orders arrive as unstructured PDFs, faxes, and clinical records rather than clean EDI transactions. Their technology extracts, classifies, splits, labels, and routes documents into downstream workflows without human intervention.
Already in production — powered by Notable's document intelligence. DocExtract uses AI-driven automation to extract, classify, split, label, and route inbound medical records, orders, and correspondence into the appropriate revenue cycle workflows. This isn't a roadmap item. It's live.
Most of the AI investment in RCM has gone to the clean-data problems: eligibility verification, claim scrubbing, denial prediction, payment posting. These workflows run on structured EDI data — predictable formats, machine-readable, easy to model.
The document layer is the opposite. Diagnostic labs, DME suppliers, pharmacy billing operations, and specialty practices deal daily with:
Every one of these requires a human to open, read, classify, and push to the right workflow queue. It's high-touch, high-volume, and structurally resistant to the EDI-first AI tooling most vendors have built. Notable's bet — and now XiFin's bet — is that agentic document AI is mature enough to own this layer.
Consecutive #1 KLAS ranking for XiFin in cross-ancillary and outpatient laboratory RCM outsourcing — the client base most exposed to document-heavy billing workflows.
This isn't a vendor integration. XiFin wrote a check into Notable's Series B — that's a financial bet, not a partnership agreement. The economics are aligned: if Notable's agents reduce manual touches inside XiFin's client operations, XiFin captures the margin improvement. That structure incentivizes deep engineering investment, not a shallow API connection.
The alliance scope covers the full intake layer: requisitions, prescriptions, medical records, payer correspondence, and other unstructured information that currently requires labor-intensive handling. The stated goal is to bring this intelligence into XiFin's broader Empower AI architecture — which already spans patient registration, eligibility verification, clinical documentation, billing, payment, and appeals.
"XiFin has long applied AI, automation, and active intelligence across the revenue cycle. This alliance builds on that foundation by expanding the specialized capabilities available through XiFin Empower and accelerating our broader innovation roadmap. Our investment and multi-year commitment reflect both the importance of this work and XiFin's continued leadership in shaping the next generation of intelligent revenue cycle management."
— Lâle White, Executive Chair and CEO, XiFin, Inc.The announcement also disclosed that Notable Systems is executing a strategic realignment — concentrating its resources on large RCM platforms and enterprise healthcare providers rather than mid-market direct sales. Current clients include Orthofix, National Seating & Mobility, and Advanced Diabetes Supply (a Cardinal Health subsidiary).
"Our greatest successes have always come from deep, collaborative relationships with major healthcare partners. XiFin's participation in our Series B is a meaningful vote of confidence in our team and our technology, and this strategic realignment lets us invest further in the embedded partnerships that have long differentiated Notable."
— Steve Johnson, CEO and Co-Founder, Notable SystemsThis is a meaningful signal. Notable is explicitly trading breadth for depth — doubling down on embedded delivery inside major platforms instead of competing for direct RCM contracts. That's a bet that the next generation of healthcare AI will be platform-native, not standalone. XiFin's investment validates the thesis.
If you're running billing operations in diagnostics, DME, home infusion, or specialty pharmacy — this is directly relevant. The document layer is where your manual FTE cost lives. XiFin and Notable are explicitly targeting it.
Three things worth watching:
XiFin's core client base — diagnostic labs, medical device billing operations, specialty pharmacy — runs on document-heavy workflows by design. These aren't edge cases; they're the core operating model. Notable's agents embedded in XiFin Empower mean the first production deployments will happen at enterprise scale, not in pilots. If it works, the data will be compelling.
The industry has talked about AI for prior auth, AI for denials, AI for eligibility. Document intake has been treated as the unsexy upstream problem. This deal says it's not unsexy — it's the constraint. When XiFin embeds Notable's agents into Empower DocExtract and makes it production infrastructure, that's the moment document AI crosses from feature to table stakes for complex billing environments.
Notable is explicitly concentrating on major platform partnerships over direct sales. XiFin is building a vertically integrated AI stack from intake to payment. The pattern: AI capability is accreting to the platforms with the deepest client relationships and the most billing data — not to point solutions. If you're evaluating standalone document AI vendors for your billing operation, this deal is a reason to pressure-test whether that category exists independently in three years.
XiFin just put capital behind the hardest unsolved problem in complex billing operations: document intake automation. Notable's agents are already in production via DocExtract. The multi-year alliance and Series B investment mean this is infrastructure commitment, not a pilot. Diagnostic, DME, and pharmacy billing operators should be asking their RCM platform vendors what their document AI strategy is — and when it ships.
