Waystar’s 21% Revenue Growth Points to Outcome-Based AI Pricing in RCM

Waystar's latest results show strong enterprise demand for integrated revenue-cycle technology. Its approach to AI recovery fees also offers an alternative to pure subscription pricing.

Growth across the platform

Waystar reported third-quarter revenue of $325.6 million, up 21% year over year, with adjusted EBITDA of $139.3 million and a 43% adjusted EBITDA margin. Net income reached $31.0 million.

Subscription revenue grew 34% to $180.7 million. The company reported net revenue retention of 108% and 1,488 customers generating more than $100,000 in trailing annual revenue. Organic revenue growth was approximately 10%.

The case for outcome-based AI monetization

Waystar has been moving toward performance-linked pricing for its Iodine pre-bill anomaly detection capabilities, which identify potential reimbursement opportunities before claims are finalized. The company discussed contingency-based terms at its August investor presentation; this is not a new November 2 product announcement.

Charging based on recovered or identified financial value can align vendor fees with provider outcomes. It can also extend the time between customer bookings, validation of results and recognized revenue, which investors should distinguish from conventional recurring software subscriptions.

What it means for the RCM market

Hospitals increasingly want tools that produce measurable collections improvement and reduce manual rework. As AI expands, vendors will need to show attributable financial outcomes, not simply model accuracy or workflow demos.

RCM investors should also separate scalable software economics from labor-intensive outsourced billing and variable performance-based revenue. Those models have different margins and cash conversion profiles.
